Every year thousands of women survive breast cancer and need education, information and counseling. Breast cancer surgeon, author and survivor Dr. Carolyn Kaelin established The Quality of Life Fund at Brigham and Women's Hospital to address the needs of this growing population.
Liz Page Associates produced two one-day educational conferences to provide breast cancer survivors and their families with education and information. The programs offered sessions on treatment advances, nutrition, exercise, sexuality, fertility, genetics, menopause, body image, lymphedema and other topics vital to survivors. Outreach services included Spanish language translation and scholarships for participants from underserved communities.
In the first year, Knowledge, Strength & Grace: Living Through Breast Cancer educational conference for patients and families was attended by nearly 400 participants from all six New England states as well as Colorado, California and Hawaii. Attendees also traveled from Canada, the British West Indies, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Africa. Over half of the registrants returned evaluations and 100% rated the program "excellent."
